On a rainy Tuesday in October 2000 (October 5th), I was having a philosophical conversation with my good friend Mads, at a bar in downtown Copenhagen. In the afternoon I called my girlfriend to arrange something. She then asked me, if I was doing anything special in the weekend to come - well, I had considered going to the racing track, but... - she then told me, that her mother and stepfather were going to drive to Amsterdam the very next day, to visit someone they knew - did I want to come along?
Sure I did - I had never been in Amsterdam before, and I like to travel, so 24 hrs. later all four of us sat in a car headed for Holland.
We slept in a nice Hotel (Panorama) in the Harburg part of Hamburg, and we arrived in Amsterdam around 13:00 the next day. My girlfriend and I then went around the town for some 5-6 hours, and then we were picked up again. It was utterly impossible to find any hotel with avilable rooms in the city, so we decided to go north to visit city Edam - the Damhotel in this city served us the best meal I believe, I have ever had. For starter I had a very nice Carpaccio with Parmesan cheese and Olive oil, and my main course was an extremely delicious Tournedos - It was almost red-blue in the middle, but VEEERY tasty.
Anyway, the Damhotel did not have any available rooms either, so at last we found a hotel (Kaizerkroon) in the beautiful old city of Hoorn (a city of which we, until that night, had never heard about).
The next day we drove home again, over the Afslutdijk, Groningen, Bremen, Hamburg and back to Copenhagen.
You can see a few of the pictures we took (with a one-time Konica Fil,-In Single Use 400 ASA camera, very NON-suitable for this kind of photography :-( ). Click to enlarge.
